About Hanging Gardens

Hanging Gardens was established in 2017 and was awarded a license to grow/process medical marijuana in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. They are based in Johnstown, PA and operate out of what was once a part of the largest steel mill in the country.

Hanging Gardens had the second highest scoring application across both rounds of the program, in no small part due to their commitment to community. Revitalizing the space to be an indoor and sterile grow facility more akin to a hospital than a greenhouse was no easy task. It took help from more than a few members of the Johnstown community and further bolstered their already strong relationships.

The question often gets asked why they entered the cannabis industry. The answer is simple: They didn’t.

Hanging Gardens entered the pharmaceutical industry to develop medicines which distill the natural benefits from the cannabis plant into forms that better interact with the endocannabinoid system and allow for effective repeatable results dose after dose.

“Creating medication that helps children consistently go to school, veterans sleep at night, and cancer patients eat is why we do this. Hanging Gardens is making cannabis medicine tomorrow’s medicine.”

Hanging Gardens’ Specialty

Hanging Gardens specializes in processing cannabis into a variety of methods of administration (MOA). While they focus on extracted and infused products the material feeding those products must be of the highest quality. Some of things that make their cultivation process unique are:

  • Completely sterile environment (equivalent to an operating room)
  • Bare root recirculating deep water culture system with water purified through reverse osmosis
  • Zero wastewater
  • No chemical pesticides or herbicides

The plants at Hanging Gardens, while great candidates to offer flower products, are not grown for that purpose. They strive to provide better MOAs and formulations for the patients. Constant product research and advances in processing techniques keep Hanging Gardens ahead of the curve. Some of the stand out items in their processing department are:

  • Proprietary High-Pressure CO2 extraction system
  • Zero residual solvents
  • Allergen and gluten free products as well as vegan

All extraction is done utilizing CO2 which is safe, non-toxic, and preserves all terpenes and flavonoids.

“Unlike most providers, Hanging Gardens does not dry or cure the cannabis. We flash freeze immediately after harvest to avoid any degradation of vital compounds. Our extracts have more terpenes in higher concentrations and are a refinement of the natural medicinal properties of the cannabis plant.”

Hanging Gardens’ Commitment to Quality

At Solevo Wellness, we’re accountable to our patients for providing informed and compassionate care and access to the highest quality of medical marijuana products. As such, we choose to work with growers who share a similar passion for quality.

Hanging Gardens’ commitment to quality begins with the notion that cannabis-based medicine should have a repeatable measurable result for each patient. With that notion driving their decisions, their facility operates based on FDA current good manufacturing practices for pharmaceutical producers. They rely on extensive in-house testing and monitoring as well as rigorous third-party testing from an ISO 17025 laboratory to ensure the products released are always of the highest standard.

“We will be the first grower/processor to make a suppository available in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. We decided on this by researching the efficacy of this administration method in the context of the Commonwealth’s qualifying conditions. We are excited to pioneer new treatment methods for patients in the Commonwealth and urge any patients or dispensary partners to make suggestions or provide feedback.”

Anything Else?

Hanging Gardens cultivates and processes medical marijuana for their friends, families, community members and stakeholders. They were founded in Pennsylvania, work in Pennsylvania and built their business here to serve patients in Pennsylvania.  Every day at the cultivation facility, they provide more opportunities to their employees and the community, while also providing patients with life-altering medication.

“Being given the opportunity to create this medication is a humbling experience. We realize that we are just at the beginning; but every day we are invigorated by new challenges and the world of possibilities that a commitment to cannabis-based medicine provides.”

Cannabis will not replace the steel or coal industry, but their facility being built inside Cambria Steel’s defunct lower mill is one small example of a new path forward for Pennsylvanians through cannabis.
