Medical Marijuana to treat Autism in Children
Many parents of autistic children have begun to see the benefits of medical Marijuana, saying that their children have been positively affected by medical Marijuana treatments.
The spectrum of severity for Autism Spectrum Disorder is extremely wide, but it can negatively impact communication skills, complicate social interactions and may cause aggression, obsessive-compulsive tendencies or self-injurious behaviors. While there is no known cause or cure for autism, the disorder is typically treated with a variety of therapies and medications.
Marijuana has long been used to treat epilepsy, an issue affecting about 30% of autistic individuals, and the benefits may extend to other issues associated with the disorder. There has been a growing number of anecdotal cases of children and adults with ASD showing positive results with Marijuana use, however, because Marijuana remains a Schedule I substance, the results are still limited.
