Wedding Cake Strain: A Marriage of Good Genes and Good Vibes

Medically Reviewed by: Andrew Bucciarelli, BS, PharmD, RPh

As the medical marijuana program in Pennsylvania continues to grow, most patients have learned to recognize their favorite strains. Solevo Wellness offers a broad variety of products that come from many different strains of cannabis. Recently, our patients voted the Wedding Cake strain as one of their fan favorites. Let’s dive in!

What Is A Cannabis Cross-Strain?

Finding the right strain can be difficult for anyone, especially patients who are new to the Pennsylvania Medical Marijuana program.

Whether it’s a personal preference or seeking out a specific treatment, cross-strains, also known as hybrids, are usually a well balanced solution for many patients’ needs. Cross-strains inherit their unique characteristics from a lineage of strain cultivation that leads to specific medicinal relief.

A cross-strain from the local dispensary has likely gone through several generations of selective breeding to ensure the consistency of its characteristics.

Through modern cannabis genetics, growers will often breed two genetically different strains together in order to produce a new cross-strain. Cannabis growers and processors select certain strains to purify and strengthen, in order to enhance specific characteristics like potency, higher yields, specific aromas and diverse terpene profiles.

Each cannabis seed is unique and will express different traits, known as phenotypes. Once the desired phenotype is achieved, a breeder will usually pollinate the new strain again with itself or a parent – essentially inbreeding the strain in a process known as back-crossing to reinforce certain qualities.

So, in simpler terms, cross-strains isolate the best qualities of each strain and combine them to produce a new plant strain.

A Solevo Wellness Patient-Favorite Strain: The Wedding Cake Strain

Growers aren’t just limited to cultivating long-established strains. Many of the marijuana sold today at Pennsylvania dispensaries are cross-strains that embody the best qualities from two different plants.

Cultivated from FarmaceuticalRX, Wedding Cake is a cross-strain of Triangle Kush and Animal Mints originally created by Seed Junky™ Genetics.

As an Indica dominant hybrid, Wedding Cake is a popular choice for patients seeking to relieve stress, alleviate anxiety and treat symptoms like pain and inflammation. Its effects are intense and physically relaxing but not overly sedating, while its psychoactive properties tend to be uplifting and mood enhancing.
